Ephesians 2:13–22, Hebrews 10:19–25

Intro: Loneliness, anxiety, and the challenge of community today.

God’s intention for a diverse, unified community. (Eph 2:13-22)

Gospel response towards community. (Heb 10:19-25)

Three imperatives:

Let us draw near

  • True heart
  • Full assurance of faith
  • Hearts sprinkled clean
  • Bodies washed pure

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope

  • He who promised is faithful

Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works

  • Not neglecting to meet together
  • Encouraging one another

Charge to our current community

  • Find and use your gifts
  • Be a creator and initiator of community
  • Make space on the fringe
  • Focus on the mission

"A church family that adopts believes the missions is not just the people that are here, but believes that the empty seats next to you have people's names on them. We're not trying to get them together for an event, we're trying to integrate their lives into our lives."

"Faith is not static, faith is dynamic. Faith is not something we get once and never get again. It's a continual exercise."

"I don't think the danger is is in disbelief, I think the danger is in discouragement and disinterest. It's not that we stop believing in Jesus, it's that we get bored with it."

"The Christian community is not a broad river, it's a rushing, powerful force that leads into a waterfall."

"The Christian community is meant to be a force of people that experience Christ together and pressing into it. Not just floating down the river."

"Discipleship and personal transformation cannot be completed unless other people are doing it with you."

"The life of a disciple is integrated both in pursuing Christ and speaking of Him in all that we do."

"If you have no room in your schedule for an outsider, you will not experience the fullness of God and you will not experience the fullness of God's intention for community."

"The purpose of gathering is to focus on the mission."

Sending Questions

"What can you do to create a gospel community?

Are you currently experiencing friendship or loneliness in the church community?

How can you pursue diversity in your friendships?

Where can you make room in your life for outsiders?

What gifts have you not developed that God has given you for the church?
