John 1:1–18


  • Jesus was with God the Father from the beginning (John 1:1–4 & Colossians 1:15–17)
    • Application: We cannot know God without Jesus

  • Jesus entered the world as light to eliminate darkness (John 1:5-8, Colossians 1:20–22, Ephesians 2:12–1, 1 John 4:4)
    • Application: We can bring our darkness to Christ, and it cannot overtake us

  • Jesus offers to adopt us to into his family through faith (John 1:9-13, Ephesians 2:19–2)
    • Application: Through faith we can move from loneliness to family

  • Jesus came to dwell with us (John 1:14-16, Romans 8, Hebrews 4:15–1)
    • Application: Through faith we have the presence of God always, at all times, forever.

      Bonus: We are the carriers of the Word into the world

Sending Questions

  1.  How does knowing that Jesus created the world, and was with the Father before the beginning of the world shape your view of his birth?
  2. What parts of your shadow and darkness have you been unwilling to let the light of Christ shine on?
  3. Who has God put around you in your new adopted family that you can reach out to bring in closer to the community?
  4. When you think of Christ praying for you and the Holy Spirit dwelling inside you, how does that help you in times of trial, temptation, loneliness, and isolation?
