Ezra 4

  • God's people are practicing obedience, worshipping him (doing all things they are "supposed to") when there's this inexplicable opposition against them. And they end up having to wait 15 years while being threatened, slandered, and forcibly stopped from building the temple.
  • Main Questions for us to consider from this story:
    • 1) What is our posture? Specifically, when we face tribulation, when we are told to wait without an end in sight, when our weakness is made visible; what is our Posture?
    • 2) What do we expect of God? Do we expect nothing of him? Or maybe he might help a little? Or, like little ones who look to their parents, they have faith that He will help them perfectly and even fight for them?
  • Our position as Christians should be one of having a Posture of Faith. One of expecting great things from our God, believing Him when he says he will deliver us from the battle we face.

Additional scripture:

2 Chronicles 20; Isaiah 50:7; 2 Corinthians 12:9-10; Matthew 11:28-30; 1 Peter 5:6-11

"When we set our eyes upon God, He will come through for us."

"Do you expect God to be your greatest advocate?"

"When Israel thrived, they expected everything from God, so should we."

"With steadfast faith, fix your eyes on God and expect the most of Him."
