How to Celebrate Easter At Home

This year, Easter looks a little bit different.

We would typically all gather at the Dowd YMCA, rejoice and sing loud with our community about the resurrection of Jesus, cheer as our friends get baptised, and soak up the afternoon at Latta Park around picnic tables of delicious food and a lawn full of colorful Easter Eggs. While that may not be the case this year, it does not mean we should celebrate any less. Christ is alive! The victory is won! There are plenty of ways to still make this Easter special and memorable, here are a few suggestions and we’d love to hear yours.

Good Friday

Pastor Brandon said this well, “I find the joy of Easter so much more so after I’ve observed the somberness of Good Friday.” Join us at 8:00pm or 9:00pm on YouTube for our Good Friday service. You can also check out our Stations of The  Cross audio tour here.

Rise and Shine

Join us online for our Easter Worship service at 9:30am or 11:00am. If you have little ones, make sure they join at 10:30am for Redemption Kids at Home (Access and content will be available weekly on Slack on the #Redemption_Families channel.)

Look Your Best

You’ve heard the expression “dress for the job you want, not the job you have”. Well for today, think of it as “dress for the day you want.” Resist the urge to wear those sweatpants and put on something that makes the day feel special. You’ll be surprised how it changes your mood. Get showered, tidy up the house, open the blinds and let the sun in.

Play It Loud

Our worship team has put together a great Easter playlist for you to turn on and listen to all day. You can find it on Spotify or YouTube

Dig In

While Easter Brunch may not be the same, you can still have a special meal. If you enjoy cooking, prepare something special and different for the day. If take out is more your style, do some research and find a local restaurant or grocery store you can support for take out.

Get Outside

Whether you have a yard, a porch or a balcony, get outside today as much as you can. There’s something about Easter and the outdoors that goes together. Look at the blooming flowers, breathe the fresh air. Take time to relax, read, listen to music, feed your soul.

Zoom Your Family

Today is an important day to connect with others. Whether that be your family or your church family, make some time to see friendly faces and wish them well.

For The Kids

Our Kids Team has put together a Holy Week calendar with scriptures and activites you can do all throughout this week. Plan to  join us on Sundays at 10:30am for Redemption Kids at Home (content and access located on the #Redemption_Families Slack channel.) You can also do fun things like make resurrection eggs and have your own egg hunt! (If you don't have plastic eggs, use blocks, balls or any others small toys lying around the house, just as fun!)
