Attributes of the Church:

Church is ONE

  • God has made it one, and commands us to seek oneness
  • Spiritual oneness
  • Organizational oneness

  • Distinct, separate
  • Ecclesia – ones who have been called out
  • Church does not always reflect purity and perfection of God, but because of Christ we are holy and blameless

Catholic – universal

  • Church is larger than one race, one nation, one people

  • Believing the apostles’ teaching, following their example

Marks of the healthy, local church:

Worship – Brings you into God’s presence

Love – Invites you in as family

Mission – Sends you out to the world

"I believe that as we build God's kingdom in the local church, it is the single most effective way God will bring His kingdom to this Earth."

"This body has a purpose, not just to get together to be a social club. The body has a purpose to display God, to love God, to pursue God, and to forsake everything else."

"If we think the worship of God is confined to 1% of our week, then we have missed the glory of God."

"Worship is an intrinsically personal thing that we all must pursue. It's personal and corporate."

"You can't read the scripture without being consumed by the commonality, the plurality and the worship that's happening together."

"We have so spiritualized the life of Christ that we've forgotten the tangible nature of what it means to love and serve like Christ."

"God made Himself to be stained, and defiled, and sinful, and set apart, and ruined so that we might become the righteousness of God. That's the work of the gospel through Jesus."

"We have a purpose, and it's to make Jesus known, all the way to the end."
